Today was day two of the World Sheepdog Trials, and a fabulous one it was! I started my day with a breakfast bap, the same as yesterday only with the addition of brown sauce. The best way for me to describe it is similar to a very mild hot sauce. The other difference is that I ordered it made with love. See, yesterday I was in line next to my friend, Victoria, and the cook told her that he made her sandwich with love. I will not say I was jealous of her love, but I was a little, so today I ordered mine with love. It was quite wonderful indeed, I even got a souvenir napkin!
With my love filled breakfast bap, came a wonderful run from Marianna! Star worked amazingly and Marianna completed her course, and did so well!
Sadly, Marianna’s run did not score high enough to place her in tomorrow’s semi-final round.
As most of you are aware, the roads here a quite narrow, and I do believe I started another story in a quite similar matter. But nonetheless, the roads become even more narrow when people park in the middle of them. Such was the case today on field two. And it was so important that they cleared the road for a wide vehicle, they stopped the trial until the vehicle was moved. I do recall the announcer announcing, “We cannot continue the trial until the white vehicle, with license number …, blocking the road is moved, it is very important that the path is clear. Once again, we will continue the trial when the white vehicle is moved…”
Several moments later, another announcement rang out for all to hear, “…We will continue the trial after Peter the announcer moves his vehicle.”
And so the trial resumes with Bob Allen and Buddy taking the field, getting around the course but not in an exemplary matter. Quite conveniently, Lise Anderson and Roadie got to run next, and did a wonderful job around the course. They timed out on their attempt to shed one single collared ewe, however they achieved their shed just as their time ran out. Sadly, they were a fraction of a second too late in their shed, and their score will not be enough to carry them to tomorrow’s semi-finals.
Below is Bob and Buddy about to begin the outrun.
Next, you will see Lise and Roadie on their way to the post.
Now is the time that I wish I understood more languages! It is incredible to be somewhere and be suddenly surrounded by the different cultures and languages. Like I did yesterday, I took more pictures of team jackets and to avoid confusion with people, I ask if that is okay with them. Around midday I asked a man from Uruguay if I could take a picture, and a Brazilian man translated my question for me. There are so many different and amazing people I have been surrounded with and it is truly incredible to be walking amongst these people. Such different walks of life and occupations, I could imagine a plethora of incredible stories from almost everybody in attendance!
Here’s the jackets I got today:
Well, since tomorrow is the big day, I do believe I will order some luck to go with my love in my breakfast bap. Just so everybody is aware, they moved the field that the young handlers will be competing on. Instead of field two, it will be field three. The time is the same, 12:00 noon, they simply believed field three would be more enjoyable for the young handlers as it has less hill to it. There is also a young handlers presentation/parade on field one at ten a.m.
I am so grateful for all of the support that you all have shown me, and I hope to make you all proud!
