Worlds Day 3 (Sept. 15)

Today was the day I got to run Mattie on field three for the young handlers division of the world trial, so I started my day with a breakfast bap. Naturally, I asked Tommy for a bit of luck, and I do think some of that luck came through on the pen. But before that, I had the pleasure of watching Scott Glen and Pip complete their semi finals run. It was quite a good run too.

I got to watch a little more of the semi-finals, and I do remember that James McGee had a nice go with his dog, Becca. But the main portion of my day was taken up by the young handlers class.

Here is a view of the field, with a young handler on the field, I do not remember which handler that was.

I also got this picture from the top of the field. This was about 80% of the way to the sheep if going on a right hand outrun.

Mattie did good on her run. She did everything I asked of her and did it happily. Our sheep were light, but willing to go where we wanted, and we did make all of the obstacles. The pen was my favorite part of the run, as I was positioned right, Mattie was positioned right, and with a few seconds to let the sheep relax and breathe, they walked right in.

It was earlier today that I told my mother, “if my run goes good I’m going to get one of those hot filled donuts being sold.” Marianna was there as well, and they both told me, “I think you should get one regardless of what happens.” And so I did, and I wish I got a picture of the monster of a donut I got. It was wonderful. But it is quite hard to go wrong when you put ice cream and kinder chocolates inside of a donut.

The competition today was incredible, and I was quite surprised at the quality of young handlers walking onto the field today. Each was very capable, and as good as anybody I have ever watched compete. The wins were deserved. Sadly, I did not make it to tomorrows final round for the young handlers (only the top three advanced), but I will be cheering each of them on from the stands.

There was one run in particular that was beautiful, and it was the first to go. The lines were immaculate, and the coursework was flawless. This handler and her dog will be competing tomorrow, and I am quite looking forward to watching. I even got a picture with her!

Below is the final standings of the young handlers class.

It was chilly and rainy today, but no doubt was it good. It was wonderful to see all of my friends cheering me on and supporting me, and that never fails to put a smile on my face. So thank you all for getting me here! I am indebted to your kindness and generosity!
